A first view of the White City
Begin at the viewpoint on Piazzetta Martiri delle Foibe, just outside the old centre. Ostuni appears as white houses gathered on the hill. This stop introduces the landscape before you enter town. The light changes throughout the day: choose your moment, then continue to the walls.

The walls and Porta San Demetrio
Follow Viale Oronzo Quaranta along the walls, with views of countryside, olive trees and, on clear days, the sea. Reach Porta San Demetrio and enter the old town among arches, steps and lanes. Limewashed walls are part of its identity; be mindful of the people living here.

Lanes and the blue door
Follow the lanes uphill among balconies, flowers and small views. Seek the famous blue door, with olive trees and sea in the background. It is a private entrance: photograph it without blocking access. Nearby, note Borgo Antico Bistrot for a pause, perhaps an aperitivo at sunset.

The Cathedral and Arco Scoppa
Climb to the little square of Santa Maria Assunta Cathedral and admire its façade and large rose window. Opposite, Arco Scoppa links the square’s buildings and frames a distinctive view. Check access to the Cathedral interiors before travelling, as works may restrict visits. The square and exterior architecture remain the focus of this stop.

The museum and the earliest history
Descend Via Cattedrale and consider the Museo di Civiltà Preclassiche della Murgia Meridionale in the former San Vito complex. Finds introduce the area’s early history and the Palaeolithic woman discovered at Santa Maria di Agnano, who died during pregnancy. Check available displays and hours with the museum. Agnano archaeological park is an additional visit outside the centre requiring separate arrangements.

Piazza della Libertà and the Carmine
Reach Piazza della Libertà, where the old town meets the newer city. Sant’Oronzo’s column, San Francesco church and the town hall form a final group of landmarks among cafés and daily life. With more time, add the Church of Carmine at the edge of the centre for another view. Then pause or enjoy the evening light in the lanes.

An optional trip to Ostuni Marina
The coast requires a separate journey from the town walk. Choose Torre Pozzella’s coves, Rosa Marina, Lido Morelli or Quarto di Monte according to the season and your plans. In summer, combine a seaside morning with the town in late afternoon. Check access, services and parking, and respect dunes and coastal plants.

Plan your day from Bari
The journey from Oceanomare is separate from the walk. Park outside the old centre and check traffic restrictions, charges and signs; Via Antonia Specchia is one area to look at. Bring comfortable shoes, water, sunglasses and sun protection. A guide explains the town’s history; an ape calessino tour may cover part of the route, depending on the operator. Check current museum and church access.
