The Greek Fountain
Before the bridge on the newer-town side, the fountain displays caryatids and mythological reliefs. Its dating is debated and municipal sources also refer to a Renaissance phase; its name does not prove it is Italy’s oldest fountain. Observe both façades.

Seaside churches
Look for Santa Maria del Canneto, Purità, Santa Maria degli Angeli and San Francesco d’Assisi. The latter holds the “bad thief” sculpture also recalled by D’Annunzio. Visit whichever churches are open and respect worship.

Underground oil mills
Gallipoli traded oil used for lighting. Underground mills reveal this history of production and maritime exchange. Check which mills are open and how to visit; not all entrances in the old town are public.

Below the walls, Purità provides a sandy break within the old town, with houses overlooking the Ionian Sea. Check space and sea conditions and keep the beach clean.

Baia Verde, Punta della Suina and other beaches
Consider Baia Verde, Lido San Giovanni, Rivabella or Lido Conchiglie for a longer beach stop. Punta della Suina lies in the Punta Pizzo area among rocks and scrub. Choose one destination, check parking and services and follow protected-area paths.

Sunset and an evening out
Walk along the walls as the light warms, then choose an Ionian-view aperitif. The old centre, Corso Roma and beach venues offer different summer atmospheres. Verify event calendars and seasonal openings for music or water parks.
